Interview with Middleweight Chris “The Irish Ghost” Fitzpatrick(13-0-0, 5 KOs)
By Pattee Mak

On July 16, 2011, middleweight Chris “The Irish Ghost” Fitzpatrick from Columbia, South Carolina, will be fighting against Scott Sigmon (16-2-0, 8 KOs) from Bedford, Virginia at the Greensboro Coliseum, Greensboro, North Carolina. This 10 round fight is being presented by Walter Johnson Promotions. I had a chance to speak to Fitzpatrick about his upcoming match.

Pattee: Good Morning Chris. 13-0 and 5 knockouts. NICE! How is your training coming along and who is training you?

FITZPATRICK: Training camp has been going great!!! Andy Schotts is my trainer and we have a great game plan going into this fight and we been training really hard.

Pattee: What do you know about your opponent Scott Sigmon?

FITZPATRICK: Well Scott is a tough fighter and he has a big mouth.

Pattee: What do you think the outcome will be in this 10 round fight? Do you think it’ll go the distance or maybe a knock out early?

FITZPATRICK: I’m looking to break him down and just win the fight big. If the knock out comes then it comes, but I never look for it cuz that is how you start loosing by points.

Pattee: Your last fight was against Bruce Rumbolz and you were victorious by way of unanimous decision. How would you describe your last fight with him?

FITZPATRICK: My last fight was a tough fight. A good test. The guy can punch and he was slick.

Pattee: You started your professional career at the age of 20. What is your amateur record?

FITZPATRICK: I don’t really know my amateur record. Never really kept track. LOL. My main focus is to win and keep winning in the pro game.

Pattee: Who is your favorite boxer?

FITZPATRICK: My favorite boxer is Julio Chavez Sr.

Pattee: Besides boxing, what other jobs have you held?

FITZPATRICK: I worked at UHaul, construction and roofing and I was a paperboy throughout high school.

Pattee: How did you get the ring name “The Irish Ghost”?

FITZPATRICK: I got the nickname the ghost when I was 8 back in Las Vegas cuz I was the only white boy in the gym. LOL. And Irish is cuz I’m Irish. LOL… but they just started callin me The Irish Ghost.

Pattee: The last time we spoke I seen you at the Victor Ortiz vs. Andre Berto fight at Foxwoods Resort and Casino. Now Ortiz is fighting Floyd Mayweather, Jr. in September. What are your thoughts on that match?

FITZPATRICK: I think Mayweather is taking that fight as a tune up for Pacman. They need to fight already, you know. But I see Mayweather winning just cuz he can out box Ortiz.

Pattee: How did you get into boxing?

FITZPATRICK: Well I started boxing at 8 years old in Las Vegas. Arnold Schwarzenegger put on this tournament for a bunch of sports called Inner City Games and boxing happened to be one of them. So I signed up and I started goin to this gym called North Las Vegas Center Ring Boxing. I happened to win the tournament and I just stuck with it. I’m glad I did to.

Pattee: Whom would you eventually like to fight?

FITZPATRICK: I want to fight the best out there. I want to be one of the best. I want to give good fights for the fans.

Pattee: What message would you like to send to all middleweights out there?

FITZPATRICK: I don’t really want to send no message to the middleweights out there. I’m just goin to come to fight. That’s how I do things. No talking. LOL.

Pattee: You have been fighting non-stop since your professional debut in 2008. Are you continuously preparing mentally and physically for future fights even if the contracts haven’t been executed?

FITZPATRICK: Yes. We train everyday it feels like. Always putting that hard work in. We got to be prepared for when the phone rings and I love fighting.

Pattee: Currently you are engaged to be married. What does your fiancée think about your boxing career?

FITZPATRICK: My fiancée supports me and what I do. She is pretty amazing.

Pattee: What would you like to tell all your fans?

FITZPATRICK: I would like to tell my fans thanks for all the support!!! I’m goin to give them great fights every time I step in the ring. There’s always action when I’m in there.

Along with Fitzpatrick there are other fighters on the same card, which include Lamar Russ vs. George Rivera, Joey Hernandez vs. Robert Kamya, Elijah McCall, James Winchester vs. Kevin Carver, Travis White vs. Kevin Oliveria, Cristian Dominguez vs. John Willoughby and DeQuan Morgan vs. David Cook. After meeting “The Ghost” I think he is one of the most humble Boxers I have ever met. All of the Palmetto/Whiterock Boxers are polite, humble, show respect, and conduct themselves with class. They have a roll model program, and I expect “The Ghost to win by TKO in 7..
