| Guerrero presented with the WBC championship belt in Polanco |
WBC welterweight interim champion Robert Guerrero was presented today with the WBC belt that endorses him as champion, at the Chilanguita Restaurant in Polanco, Mexico City.
Guerrero, who defeated Turkey’s Selcuk Aydin by decision on July 28th in San Jose, California, said he’s proud of being part of the WBC.
Via phone, the president of the WBC Jose Sulaiman, congratulated Guerrero for having conquered the title and for having supported his wife in the hard battle against cancer which she’s victorious.
Ponce de León made his dream come true
At the same event, Daniel Ponce de Leon received from hands of Don Victor Cota, the green and gold championship belt.
Ponce de Leon defeated Jhonny Gonzalez by technical decision, to conquer the featherweight title on September 15 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Daniel said that he always wanted to be a WBC champion and remembered that he challenged Oscar Larios and Israel Vazquez, until Jhonny Gonzalez gave him the chance and he was then able to make his dream come true. He’s already promised Jhonny a rematch.
The president of the WBC via phone call, congratulated him.
As in September, I once again ran out of gas in the 10th & 11th championship rounds of October & November with this column, but I recovered to complete them and will unleash a few more flurries to close out the 12th and final round.
In the first week of October, Hassan N’Dam won a UD over Curtis Stevens in an eliminator for the right to challenge Jermaine Taylor who defeated aging Sam Soliman to regain the IBF Middleweight title. How Taylor even earned this title shot is another story altogether, but it is all irrelevant as he is now the champion. However he will not have too much time to savor his victory as he has assault and battery charges pending against him and an upcoming court fight that may turn out to be the toughest fight of his life, just when things started to look up for him in boxing, we wish him luck.
