Mothmora KOs Omsarashvili, Retains WBF Title

World Boxing Federation (WBF International Middleweight Champion Michel Mothmora from France had a very successful night on Friday (May 16), as he retained his title in style by convincingly defeating Georgian challenger Robison Omsarashvili.

Exactly six months after winning the title, and spurred on by a nice crowd at the Gymnase des Trois Fontaines in Saint Jean, close to Mothmora’s hometown Gien, the champion was determined to keep his crown and took control of the fight in round one.

With nice one-two combinations, Mothmora (33) was always first and didn’t allow Omsarashvili to find his rhythm. In round two he seemed to rock the 25-year-old visitor with a hard right hand, but Omsarashvili recovered and finished the round well.

The third round was more even, and in rounds four, five and six Omsarashvili did really well and appeared to be getting himself firmly back in the fight. But in round seven Mothmora landed a picture-perfect left hook which wobbled Omsarashvili and send him down.

Sitting on one knee, Omsarashvili was clearly hurt and he didn’t get up before Belgian referee Jean-Pierre Van Imschoot reached the count of ten. It was a great ending for the local man, after a very good fight where both men fought well.

Michel Mothmora improved his deceiving record to 26-22 (9), having won eleven of his last twelve bouts, while its back to the drawing board for Robison Omsarashvili who falls to 14-7-3 (7). The fight was promoted by Ring Giennois, headed by Michel Chagnoux.
