SMITH OUTCLASSES WOLAK;
TERON OVERPOWERS LOZADA TO REMAIN UNBEATEN ON SHOBOX: THE NEW GENERATION

SHOWTIME to Replay Thrilling Bouts Thursday, August 7, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on SHO2

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK (August 2, 2008) – In an action packed night of fights on ShoBox: The New Generation, junior middleweight Ishe “Sugar Shay” Smith of Las Vegas, overwhelmed Poland’s Pawel “Raging Bull” Wolak en route to a 10-round unanimous decision victory.

Smith, won by scores of 97-93 and 96-94 twice and handed Wolak his first loss, improved his record to 20-3 with nine KOs. Wolak, who fights out of Rockaway, NJ, drops to 21-1 with 14 KOs.

In the ShoBox co-feature, young prospect and Bronx native Jorge Teron looked impressive as he defeated hard-hitting Michael Lozada of Mexico by sixth-round TKO (1:26).

The telecast aired live on SHOWTIME and was presented by Gotham Boxing in association with Final Forum Boxing. The action packed evening originated from the Aviator Arena in Brooklyn, New York—the fourth ShoBox to emanate from the Big Apple.

Having lost two of his last three fights, Smith knew needed an impressive showing in order to remain a relevant prospect in the 154-pound division.

“I knew I needed a win tonight if I wanted to stay competitive in this division,” Smith said. “I had a great chance tonight to prove myself and I took advantage of it.”

With the future of his career in question, Smith came out strong and landed a flurry of punches early. He poured it on as the fight progressed and, despite slipping a few times on a slick canvas, Smith clearly overpowered his opponent.

Wolak kept the pace early and had the excitable crowd behind him, but he was never able to land the power punches needed to slow Smith’s determined attack.

Teron recorded his seventh knockout victory in his last 11 fights, his 15th KO overall, improving his record to 22-0-1. The hard-hitting prospect floored Lozada twice in the sixth round. The second punishing knockdown forced Lozada’s corner to surrender before referee Pete Santiago could finish the count.

“Teron wasn’t throwing the outrageous number of punches that we expected,” said ShoBox analyst Steve Farhood. “But once he was able to land a good one, once he hit that sweet spot, the fight was over.”

Teron has trained with Mark Breland, a 1984 Olympic gold medalist and former World Boxing Association welterweight world champion, since turning pro at the age of 19 in 2005.

Tune in tomorrow night as SHOWTIME continues its back-to-back weekend of boxing. International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior bantamweight champion Dimitri “The Baby” Kirilov (29-3-1, 9 KOs) will attempt to defend his title against former IBF flyweight champion and knockout artist Vic “Raging Bull” Darchinyan (29-1-1, 23 KOs), live on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING at 9 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast).

Nick Charles called the action from ringside with Farhood serving as expert analyst. The executive producer of ShoBox is Gordon Hall with Richard Gaughan producing and Rick Phillips directing.

NOTE: WEIGHTS – Pawel Wolak weighed in at 153 ¼ pounds and Ishe Smith tipped the scales at 153 ½ pounds during Thursday’s weight in at the New York City Athletic Commission Office in Manhattan, New York. Jorge Teron measured 135 pounds while Michael Lozada weighed in at 134 ½ pounds.

New Jersey’s own Pawel “Raging Bull” Wolak (21-0, 14 KOs) will put his undefeated record on the line against ShoBox veteran Ishe “Sugar Shay” Smith (19-3, 19 KOs) in a 10-round junior middleweight bout, Friday, Aug. 1, live on SHOWTIME at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast). Friday’s telecast marks the first time in four years that the critically acclaimed series that has produced 28 world champions will be contested in New York.

The co-feature pits undefeated, Bronx native Jorge “The Truth” Teron (21-0-1, 14 KOs) against the hard-hitting Mexican, Michael Lozada (29-4-1, 22 KOs) in a 10-round lightweight battle.

The fights will be promoted by Gotham Boxing from the Aviator Arena in Brooklyn, New York.

PAWEL WOLAK:

“I don’t care about his inactivity; I know what I can do and I know how I can fight. I know I will win this. It is not a question in my mind. Him not having fought in a while does not play into this for me.”

ISHE SMITH:

“If I can’t beat him then what am I doing with my career? What am I doing? I have to beat him. For me this is do or die. I have no choice.

“For me this fight is like coming home. I grew up on SHOWTIME. That is where I got ranked…that is where everything started for me. I feel comfortable on SHOWTIME because it is home.

“Tomorrow night you will see the old Ishe mixed with the new Ishe. I am just going to keep throwing the punches and you will notice my growth but you will still see the old Ishe.”

JORGE TERON:

“On paper this is my toughest fight. We prepared though. We watched a lot of tapes and I learned from them. I really worked hard these past few fights and I am at my best. I prepared.”

MICHAEL LOZADA:

“I come in here for the victory; all the way here for the victory. I am far from home so why would I come to lose? I didn’t. I came to win. I am here in his home, I know that, but I will still
