McLAUGHLIN GOES THE DISTANCE.

Ringside by Pattee Mak – Canton, Massachusetts-October 26, 2013

What a crisp, beautiful fall day in New England for professional boxing to take place outside under a tent in Canton, Massachusetts.  The main event consisted of 6 Rounds in the middleweight division. MICHAEL “Donegal Dynamite” McLAUGHLIN of Dorchester, MA vs. SERGIO CABRERA of Somerville, MA. This match in my eyes was definitely the most exciting bout on the card.  McLaughlin who controlled most of the action especially during round 3 when McLaughlin dropped Cabrera but that didn’t stop Cabrera because in round 4 Cabrera landed a great right hook which brought McLaughlin to the canvas then shortly thereafter in the same round, McLaughlin was dropped once more by an overhand left by Cabrera. Towards the end of the rounds both fighters were tiring out. In the end, McLaughlin’s hand was held high by UD. All three judges scored the bout 57-54.

McLaughlin increased his record to 6-1-1 and Cabrera decreased his record to 0-2.

4 Rounds but originally 6 Rounds -Junior Middleweights – JOHN “Buncrana” HUTCHINSON of Dorchester, MA vs. ROBERT “Flying Hawk” BRANDO-HUNT of Hyannis, MA.  Hutchinson outclassed Brando-Hunt during all 4 rounds.  All three Judges scored the bout 40-36 all for Hutchinson. Hutchinson increased his recorded to 5-0-2 and Brando-Hunt decreased his record to 0-4-1.

4 Rounds Middleweights –  GERALD “The Artist” SCHIFONE of Stoughton, MA vs. WAYNE HARNOISE of Worcester, MA.  Harnoise making his pro debut couldn’t stand up against Schifone who brought his own cheering crowd.  Schifone unleashed multiple lefts and rights on Harnoise before the referee stopped the bout in round 1 at 2 minutes, 46 seconds into the round.

4 Rounds Heavyweights – DONNIE “The Big Nasty” PALMER of Dorchester, MA vs. TYRONE “Lock ‘Em Up” SMITH of Dorchester, MA.  Palmer increased the pressure on Smith for 2 rounds. Smith retired and didn’t make round 3.  Palmer won by TKO.

4 Rounds – Super Middleweights – K.J. “Canine” HARRISON-LOMBARDI  of Providence, RI vs. vs. LIONEL “Boogz” YOUNG of Brockton, RI. In Young’s pro debut he couldn’t make it against Harrison-Lombardi who continuously worked the body.  Lombardi won by UD. The judges scored it 40-36, 40-36 and 40-35.
