Obodai Sai Demands Miguel Cotto Fight

By Prince Dornu-Leiku

After claiming the Commonwealth Light Middleweight belt at the Lebanon House in Accra last Saturday night, Ghanaian Obodai Sai says he is ready to take on the world.

The boxer popularly called The Miracle needed no miracles to dominate and beat compatriot Joseph Lamptey via a technical decision after the fight was abruptly stopped in round 7 on the advice of ringside doctor D.C. Sonne following a second examination of Lamptey’s deep cut he sustained in round 3 through an accidental head butt.

59-56, 59-57, 59-56 the three judges scored the fight, all in favor of Obodai Sai who is quickly looking beyond the Commonwealth title.

“It’s good and I’m feeling so very great but this is just the first step because I’m ready to take on the world. I want to fight WBO champ Miguel Cotto, I want to beat him and take the world title,” Obodai Sai has exclusively told Sportsinghana.com.

The undefeated Obodai improved his modest record to 15-0 but says he is undaunted at all with the vast experience of triple world champion Cotto who also beat Obodai’s senior compatriot Joshua Clottey barely two years ago.

“I am not afraid because I know what I can do and I will do my best. By all means I will beat him, I assure you. I want to tell my fans that everybody should pray for me and I will make them proud,” the confident Obodai added.

In other fights in last Saturday’s Ya Buga Shii? (Repeat or Revenge) boxing show put up by Junior Walaga Promotions, Prince Ofotsu claimed the Ghana Super Featherweight title with an unanimous decision victory over Odarlai Lamptey with Raymond Commey also winning the national Super Bantamweight belt via unanimous decision against Razak Nettey.
