Interview with Michal “TNT” Chudecki

By Pattee Mak | June 19, 2013

Michal Chudecki, GlobalBoxing by Sylwek Wosko - DIgitalReflectioMichal “TNT” Chudecki (5-0-1, 3 Kos) might just have the toughest fight thus far of his professional boxing career.  He is fighting Krysztof Szot (17-5-1, 5 Kos) on June 29, 2013 in Ostroda, Poland.  Chudecki is coming off of a majority draw against Christian Steele (3-5-0) back on April 13, 2013.

Pattee Mak:  Like I said earlier, this will probably be the toughest fight of your career. Do you agree?

Chudecki: Yes, it is a big challenge, but I have no choice other than to take it and do my best to win.

Pattee Mak:  Why Szot?

Chudecki: My promoter and trainers made the final decision. He’s a good boxer, well known to the Polish crowd. I’m sure it will be an exciting fight.

Pattee Mak:  Tell me what do you know about Szot?

Chudecki: We’ve known each other for years, as we used to be in the Polish National Boxing Team together. Like I said before, he’s a good, experienced fighter.

Pattee Mak:  Szot went the distance in some 10 12 round bouts.  This is the first time you are fighting more than 6 rounds.  Does this concern you at all?

Chudecki: I wouldn’t say that the number of rounds really concerns me, because I’ve been training for it. It will be another step in my professional boxing career, which I have to take if I want to move forward.

Pattee Mak:  Has your training changed since this fight is scheduled for 8 rounds?

Chudecki: Yes. In my preparation I focused mainly on strength and conditioning training and improving my endurance.

Pattee Mak:  Are you currently living in the US or Poland and where are you training for this fight?

Chudecki: After my last fight I went back to Poland. I’m currently in Dzierzoniow, where I’m getting ready for the fight together with my teammate, Kamil Laszczyk.

Pattee Mak:  Who is training you?

Chudecki: I’m training with former fighter, Piotr Wilczewski. During this camp I’ve also spent some time in Poznan Boxing Club, working with trainers Wojciech Komasa and Sebastian Rzadkiewicza. When I’m in the U.S., I train with James Ali Bashir.

Pattee Mak:  Back on April 13, 2013, you were favored to win the fight against Christian Steele but the judge’s scored it a majority draw. Looking back is there anything you wished you could have done differently?

Chudecki: I’d make some changes in my preparation. I’d try to arrange more sparring sessions, work more on different tactics, and plan better for the fight. At the time I was getting ready for the matchup with Steele, I was still in the process of getting to know Bashir and his training methods. It was a matter of making adjustments.

Pattee Mak:  You’ve been going nonstop since your pro debut on September 29, 2012, less than 1 year ago. This will be you 6th fight in less than one year.  Do you want to continue at this pace?

Chudecki: Because I started late, I have to catch up and continue fighting frequently. Once I get to the point in my career where I’m having title fights, I won’t fight that often.

Pattee Mak:  Why did you start your pro career so late?

Chudecki: Because I was hoping for an Olympic medal. When it was clear to me that it wouldn’t get the chance of competing in the Olympics, I finally decided to turn pro. I received an offer from Global Boxing Promotions and have been with them since 2012.

Pattee Mak:  I read that you were hoping to go to the London Olympics but because of a hand injury all roads to the Olympics came to a halt.  Tell me more about that devastating time in your life.

Chudecki: As a four-time Polish amateur champion, I was definitely a good candidate for the Summer Olympics in London 2012. Unfortunately, after I had experienced an injury during the qualifying tournament, I had to give up my dream of winning an Olympic medal for my country. It was a devastating time in my life, but on the other hand it (accelerated) my decision of turning pro and joining the Global Boxing Team. I guess there is always a positive side.

Pattee Mak:  Yes there is always a positive side to life.

Pattee Mak:  Your fight is scheduled to take place in Ostroda, Poland.  Is the venue near your hometown?

Chudecki: There’s almost a 200-mile distance between those two places, but I know the venue. It’s an amphitheater located by the lake, so the fans will be able to enjoy beautiful views when they come to the fight.

Pattee Mak:  After this fight with Szot is their someone you would like to fight next or in the future?

Chudecki: I’m not thinking about it yet. I understand that to a certain extent my future career depends on the result of the fight with Szot. After June 29th I’ll discuss it with my promoter.

Pattee Mak:  In polish what would you like to say to your fans?

Chudecki: Pozdrawiam, trzymajcie kciuki!

Pattee Mak:  Thank you so much for taking the time to do this interview.  A special thanks goes out to his interpreter Kasia Niedzwiecka of Global Boxing Promotions for making this possible.  The above bout is subject to change.

Chudecki: Thank You and dziękuję!
