Michael Farenas KO’s Davis

Michael “Hammer Fist” Farenas #2 IBF Jr Lightweight Contender

July 2, 2014 – Mashantucket, Connecticut – Ringside by Pattee Mak

Michael “Hammer Fist” Farenas of Paranaque City, Philippines gets the TKO win over Mark “Too Sharp” Davis of Cleveland, Ohio during a special addition of ESPN’s, Wednesday nite fights at Foxwoods Resorts & Casino.

During the 8 rounds, Farenas continually applied pressure on Davis and landed the cleaner punches. During round 1 there was a legal punch by Farenas which opened a cut on Davis’ right eye. During round 5 Farenas kept coming forward and was looking for the KO but Davis was saved by the Bell. There was consistent action by both fighters and Davis did put up a great fight. During round 8 Farenas landed a left hook that wobbled Davis and followed up with another left. Referee Steve Smoger jumped in and called a halt to the bout at .59 seconds into round 8. Farenas became the #2 IBF Jr Lightweight Contender. Previous to the TKO victory the judges had Farenas up across the board except for Clark Sammartino gave Davis round 7.

Farenas increased his record to 37-4-4, 29 Kos and Davis obtained his first loss at 18-1, 5 Kos.

Co-Main Event: JUNIOR LIGHTWEIGHTS – BILLY “The Kid” DIB of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia vs. ALBERTO “Kichis” GARZA of Mexico City, Distrito Federal, Mexico. What can I say… This wasn’t an exciting fight to me. Dib gets the UD victory after 10 rounds. The judges scored the bout 98-91; 96-93 and 96-93. Garza landed an accidental head-butt during round 1 and Garza also received a 1 point deduction during round 6 for hitting below the belt. Dib’s right eye was cut and Garza’s right eye was swollen. There was some confusion during round 10 as if Garza asked for a time out and got it.

Dib advances his record to 37-3-0-1 and Garza decreases his record to 26-8-1.

6 Rounds Welterweights: NICK DE LOMBA of Cranston, Rhode Island vs. EDWIN SOTO of New Haven, Connecticut by way of Puerto Rico. The swing bout of the nite. Very competitive back and forth action. De Lomba left eye is cut. Judges scored the bout for De Lomba by Majority Decision, 57-57; 55-59; 56-58.

4 Rounds Lightweights: RYAN “Blue-Chip” MARTIN of Cleveland, OH vs. MATTHEW “Champ” BACA of Albuquerque, New Mexico. All 3 Judges scored the bout 40-36. Winner by UD Martin.

6 Rounds (Female) Super Bantamweights: SHELLY “Shelito’s Way” VINCENT of Providence, Rhode Island vs. NYDIA “Da Phenomenal” FELICIANO of Bronx, New York. Both females brought their own fans. This rematch was a favorite for some of the spectators in the crowd. It was consistent back and forth with left and rights. Both fighters fought with a ton of heart. Judges scored the bout 57-57; 59-55 and 58-56 for Vincent. Winner by Majority Decision.

6 Rounds Junior Middleweights: JIMMY WILLIAMS of New Haven, Connecticut vs. STEPHAN OWUSU of Bronx, New York. During the 2nd round Williams landed a left then a right to drop Owusu. Williams couldn’t finish Owusu off. The judges scored the bout 60-53; 59-54; 57-56 for Williams by UD.

4 Rounds Super Welterweights: JUNIOR “Sugar Boy” YOUNAN of Brooklyn, New York vs. AZAMAT UMARZODA of Las Vegas, Nevada. Younan trying to be fancy in the ring. Round 4 both fighters started to get cocky in the ring. Umarzoda having an unorthodox head stance. All 3 judges scored the bout 40-36 for Younan.

6 Rounds Welterweights: LUIS CRUZ of Bronx, New York vs. vs. RYAN PICOU of Las Vegas, Nevada.
After 6 rounds the judges scored the bout 59-55 2x; 58-56 all for Cruz. No knockdowns during the bout.

With all that being said I was off and running to 50 Cent’s Birthday Bash right next store.
